Anyone that likes to go camping knows that there is ALOT of things you need to have to make the trip successful. Leaving the comforts of home for an adventure requires a bit of planning, regardless if you are a tent camper or trailer camper. Having some essential items packed will make camping much more enjoyable. If you are new to trailer camping, there is a long list of suggestions to have for your camper. There is every accessory imaginable that can be bought, but the list of must have items is realistically much more manageable. In this post I will go over the top 10 accessories that I have found to be essential to trailer camping and hope that these ideas will help you plan for the next season of camping fun.

With trailer camping, there are some accessories I find very helpful and some that are completely necessary. If you are a new camper, some of the accessories listed will have to be bought before you even start camping, such as a good sewer hose, leveling blocks, and a drinking water hose. Leveling blocks are a must for any campground unless you plan to camp in a parking lot! Sites are often uneven and the camper must be level and stable for use.

  1. Sewer hose and tank flusher: Being able to use the full amenities of a camper includes the water and bathroom. While I find that some campgrounds offer very nice facilities for bathing, I prefer to use my own. Sharing a bathroom with an entire loop of a campground brings back memories of living in a college dorm and sharing a bathroom with the entire dorm floor…things can get kind of busy and gross! So for the sake of cleanliness, let look at some good options for these accessories.

The Camco Sewer hose and Rhino Blaster flush are a great combo for cleaning the sewer tanks. This is the not so glamorous part of camping, but having the right equipment makes a big difference. These accessories have proven to be very efficient and reliable for us, check out these products here.

2) Clean water hose and filter: Having a separate hose for filling your clean water tanks is another must have accessory for trailer camping and adding a water filter is even better. Notice in the images below that this hose is blue and the sere hose is black. It is very important to store these apart from each other! Drinking water and sewer water don’t mix well. In our camper, we have a storage tub labeled “Sewer Water” with the sewer hoses, tank flush, and disposable gloves and another storage tub labeled “Clean Water” for the drinking water hose and filter. This way there is no chance of contamination.

3) Outdoor Rug: Having a large outdoor rug under the awning of our camper is super helpful, especially when camping with kids and dogs. We have one extra large run we put down outside our door, then set up chairs and a small folding table on top. This is a nice place to hang out in the shade of the awning and does help keep the dirt, mud, and sand getting inside the camper. We like to camp at beach destinations like Ludington State Park and Indiana Dunes where it is mostly sandy, so the rug is a big help with our camper set-up.

4) Portable Grill: One of the best parts about camping is the great food you get to cook and eat! You could be old school and cook right over the campfire, which is great. I like having a portable grill so the heat can be better controlled is easy to cook up a quick meal. We like to use the Weber-Q grill as an addition to our outdoor kitchen that comes with a camp stove. Check out the Weber-Q here:

5) Small Coffee Maker: No matter where you go or what you like to do, I would venture to say that most people like to start their day with a fresh cup of coffee. I love sitting outside the camper in the morning while the park is still calm and quiet and enjoying some coffee. This mini coffee maker is just the right size for travel and storage.

6) RV Leveling Blocks: Being able to properly level your camper is necessary for safety and proper function. Considering that most campsites are not level, having a set of leveling blocks and ramps are used on every trip we take.

7) Folding lawn chairs: OK so this might be an obvious need for camping, one cannot sit around the campfire without a place to sit! But getting a nice gravity chair is definitely worth the investment. After a long day of hiking, fishing, or biking just plopping down into one of these chairs for a rest is super relaxing!

8) Storage Bins: I love to use these inexpensive cloth storage bin in all of the camper cabinets and storage areas. They are flexible so they can be used is most tight places and keeps items from flinging around while in transit.

9) RV Tire Pressure Monitoring System: Putting miles on the road to the camping destination always leads to possibility of tire issues which absolutely no one wants! For safety of your family and investment in the camper, these are an accessory worth getting. This will alert you of any changes in tire pressure while driving so you can pull over and avert disaster.

10) RV mattress pad: This accessory is not necessarily an essential item, but definitely adds to the comfort factor. Most RV mattresses are not very comfortable so adding a nice mattress topper or pad is a welcome addition to the camper. Ending a day of fun out in nature with a good night’s rest is a nice reward. A cute set of camper sheets and bedding is nice to have too!
