Fun Indoor Camping for Kids

Spring Break for the kids is here and if you are looking for ideas to keep them busy, why not try indoor camping! The weather by us now is super cold and rainy, so camping outside would not be that great. I thought why not bring the fun indoors and use some creativity to have camping fun. Make a whole day of it with building tents, packing camp bags with fun games and crafts, and make some yummy camp inspired snacks. Even have a movie night in the tents. Here are some ideas for you to try to bust that boredom and have a super fun camp day with the kids.

CAMP:

First up – lets build some tents. We have some kids pop-up play tents at home and I covered it with fun camouflage netting. If you have room to set up a camping tent in you living space then go for it! I put in a cozy sleeping bag for each kid and some camping necessities light flashlights, scavenger hunt lists, board and card games, even kid binoculars and hats.

Of course the kids can always bring along some stuffed animal or doll friends. Just use whatever you have at home and the kids will be sure to love it. Make a fort out of pillows and sheets, hang some fun lights, there is no right or wrong way to do this and kids love to help.

CREATE:

Next up is the scavenger hunt. There are tons of free pintables available for indoor and outdoor scavenger hunts, some links are below. We tried both, though many of the bugs and flowers were not yet out so we improvised to an indoor alphabet scavenger hunt. Getting outside for a bit of fresh air was great even if the weather was not so nice.

Other great ideas to include with the indoor camping day are board or card games like Uno, or make some camping crafts like rock painting or coloring pages.

COOK:

No camping trip would be complete without snacks! We made some tent snacks together of fruit and pb&j crackers after the scavenger hunt and crafts, then later on we included the timeless camping dessert – S’MORES!!! There are a ton of ideas for ways to make s’mores that can be done indoors. We tried to use out campfire tins we got as a gift but the rain squashed that idea. We opted for roasting the marshmallows with my dessert torch I have for creme brulee, but below are some other great ideas to try.
