Chocolate Dipped Apple Slices

If you are looking for a fun and tasty craft to make with you kids, these chocolate dipped apple slices are an easy idea. Fresh fall apples are the perfect ingredient to create a yummy treat, this idea is a different spin on the traditional caramel apples. Kids can choose any variety of toppings to make these treats as creative as they like.

Ingredients:

  • 8-10 apples, washed and cut into thick slices
  • white or milk chocolates for melting
  • toppings such as sprinkles, candies, nuts or caramels for drizzle
  • sticks to put the apples on, clear bags for cute wrapping
  • large try with liner or wax paper for apples to cool on

First, I cut the cleaned apples into thick slices, and some wedges, and put a candy stick into each piece.

For the chocolate to dip in, can simply pour chocolate chips into microwave safe bowls and melt at 40 second increments, stirring after each, until chocolate is smooth and melted. Make sure the kids are aware that the chocolate will be very warm so try to keep little fingers out of it. Dip each apple slice making sure that both sides are covered, may take a few dips to get this done.

Place the dipped apple onto a lined tray. It is best to decorate each slice while the chocolate is warm so the toppings will stick. I like to place small bowls out for the kids to grab toppings from easily. I like to let them be as creative as they choose, make a smiley face or picture with the toppings!

We tried to melt some caramels to drizzle over the white chocolate wedges but this seems to harden pretty quick so is not as pretty as the others but they sure do taste great!

After all the slices are dipped and decorated, place the tray into the refrigerator for about 30 minutes to cool.

Once the slices are cool just take them out and enjoy or can put into small clear bags and keep in the fridge for 2-3 days. These are a great treat to share with friends and family, the kids were very proud of their creations and happy to share them.

I hope you and your family enjoy this fun fall kitchen craft. Check out some of my other post about creating with kids, cooking, and camping.
